The Structures of Gantry Cranes
1.Single girder gantry cranes
The structure for a single girder gantry crane is simple. They are easy to install, and light in weight. The main structure of a single girder gantry crane is off-track box-shaped structure. Comparing to double girder gantry cranes, the stiffness overall is weaker.
2.Double girder gantry cranes.
Double girder gantry cranes have good carrying capabilities, overall stability, and different varieties. What's more, the span is large. However, the weight is larger than single girder ones with the same lifting abilities, and also the price is higher. This kind of gantry cranes can also be divided into two groups by structure: box girder gantry cranes, and truss girder gantry cranes. Box-typed are more popular.
Classifications of Gantry Cranes
There are mainly 4 kinds of gantry cranes used in industries nowadays, and each one of them has got specific usage.
1.Ordinary gantry cranes.
The common structures of this kind of gantry cranes are container types and truss types. They can carry things like bulk materials and items, no heavier than 100 tons at a time, from one place to another, in a span from 4 to 39 meters. The grab crane is in a higher working class among gantry cranes. An ordinary gantry crane contains a hook, a grab, an electromagnetic device, and a hoist gantry crane; but also includes a semi-gantry crane
2.Hydropower station gantry cranes.
This kind of gantry cranes is mostly used for lifting and hoisting the gate of a dam. It can be used for the installation of the gate as well. The lifting of the crane can reach the level of 80-100 tons, but the span is a little shorter than of ordinary ones, which measures from 8 to 16m; the lifting rate is a little low, which is 1-5m/min. This is a kind of crane that not being used often, because it is kind of heavy. It is in great need to improve the working class appropriately.
3.Shipbuilding gantry cranes
They are mostly used for berthing the hull assembly. There are two lifting carts normally: one is equipped with two main hooks, runs on the top flange of rail bridge; the other is equipped with a main hook and a secondary hook, runs on the bottom flange; this kind of structure is to orbit and lift hull sections easily.
4.Container gantry cranes.
They are used at container terminals. After the dragging cart unloads containers from boats and piles them up at the back or in the yard field, container gantry cranes stocks them up and deliver them away. It is a great way for speed up the turnover for cranes. This kind of crane can be used for stacking up container yards, which can put piled-up containers for 3-4 yards in height and 6 rows in width. Generally there are tire gantry cranes, but rail gantry cranes as well.
