Common Gantry Crane
This is the most widely used type of gantry cranes. It can lift every kind of object and bulk material weight under a hundred tons with a span of four to thirty five meters and will be in a higher working level with a grab bucket.
 
Hydropower Station Gantry Crane
This type of gantry crane is mainly used to lift and move and open or close the gate, but also could be used in an installation operation. The lifting weight of a hydropower station gantry crane is up to 80 to 500 tons. But the span of it is not big, usually from eight to sixteen meters. And the lifting speed is one to five meters per minute, which is not high, either. Although cranes in this type don't lift a lot, there could be a heavy burden of their shoulders once they are put into work. That's why we should upgrade the working grade properly.
 
Shipbuilding Gantry Crane
This super large sized gantry crane works on the ship berth assembling hull. It usually has tow trolleys, one runs over the top of the bridge with two main hooks while the other one runs under the bridge with one main hook and one sub-hook. This tow-trolleys configuration is convenient to lift and overturn big pieces of the hull. The lifting weight of a shipbuilding gantry crane goes from a hundred to one thousand and five hundred tons, and the span of it is up to one hundred eighty five meters with a lifting speed of two to fifteen meters per minute and a micro speed from point one to point five meters per minute.
 
Container Gantry Crane
Obviously, this type of gantry crane works on a container quay. Containers unloaded from the ship by the vehicle bridge will be transported to the yard or the rear by the trailer then stacked up by the container gantry crane or loaded away straightly. In this way the container vehicle bridge and other cranes could work in a shorter cycle. Container gantry cranes can be divided into rail mounted and rubber tyred container gantry cranes. Yards that can stack containers in three to four layers and six lines, they use rubber tyred container gantry cranes. But there are rail gantry cranes as well. Compared with container trolleys, container gantry cranes have bigger width and height and senior working grade required by quay transportation. To be specific, the lifting speed is eight to ten meters per minute and the span with a maximum of sixty meters is decided by how many lines of containers it need to cross. As for the lifting weight, it's about twenty, twenty five or thirty tons according to the length of the container which is twenty, thirty or forty inches.
 
At last, I wanna say, among all the gantry crane manufactures around the world, China may not be the biggest. But china gantry crane is notable. In 2008, the world's strongest gantry crane, which can lift 20,000 metric tons, was installed in Yantai, China.
